Hollywood (May 21): Sony Pictures released a new domestic trailer for "Pixels" along with an international trailer on Tuesday, May 19. Unlike other alien movies, "Pixels" features aliens in the form of 1980s arcade games characters.
Humans are fighting against aliens invasion on Earth. "I believe that some alien life force send down real-life video games to attack us," someone says in voiceover. Since the aliens are inspired by arcade games, video games expertise is needed. Fortunately, there are Pac-Man world champion Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Centipede master Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Donkey Kong king Eddie Plant (Peter Dinklage) teaming up in a battle with the aliens.
At the end of the trailer, there is a familiar joke about Pac-Man's creator coming to save his "son." It also features a scene where Kevin James' character kills a small dancing Smurf.
Also starring in the film are Jane Krakowski, Brian Cox, Ashley Benson, Sean Bean and James Preston Rogers. Sandler produces the movie alongside Chris Columbus, Mark Radcliffe and Allen Covert. Directed by Chris Columbus, the movie is scheduled for a U.S. release on July 24.
